For this CalArts theater production, I served as the scenic designer, developing a visual world inspired by Arthur Miller’s adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People. I began by generating a range of visual research and conceptual approaches, exploring how the story could live within a minimal, abstract environment, which was an essential priority for the director and I.
I translated the design into a series of sketches, a full drafting package, and detailed paint elevations. Each phase required close attention to proportion, texture, and spatial relationships, ensuring the abstract environment remained both intentional and playable for the performers. As the process went on, changes came up that required communication with the whole design team. I updated drawings, revised paperwork, and responded to what we discovered in rehearsals and during the build, keeping the design flexible while staying true to the original idea.
