Grotesque Burlesque is a show that mixes burlesque and magic lantern art to explore the beauty and strangeness of the human body. Performers alternate between burlesque acts and magic lantern projections to look into this contrast.What makes the grotesque beautiful, and the beautiful grotesque?

In this CalArts student led production, I assisted the creative director, Zoë Lappin, in creating the main stage for the show, which included drapery constructed from muslin fabric. In addition, I supported the “Magic Lantern” performance by operating silhouettes and cutouts on an overhead projector.
